After earning his PhD from Cambridge University, Dr. Philip Klipstein joined the faculty of Imperial College London and later Oxford University, before making Aliyah in 2000. His pioneering research into antimonide materials caught the attention of SemiConductor Devices (SCD), an Israeli leader in infrared technology, which recruited him to advance a new government-funded initiative developing state-of-the-art night-vision systems.
At SCD, Philip led the creation of a multimillion-dollar laboratory to grow advanced crystal structures, including the revolutionary “XBN device,” which he patented in 2003. In 2008, the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) appointed him to lead a $5 million program developing this breakthrough technology, culminating in the first commercial XBN sensor in 2013.Today, XBN devices, renowned for their performance and reliability, have become the global standard in infrared detection.
An internationally recognized expert, Philip has represented Israel and SCD as an invited speaker at more than 30 global conferences, including the prestigious International Infrared Technology Conference, where SCD received the Best Paper Award in 2016. He holds five patents and has authored over 150 publications and book chapters. Alongside his research, he continues to mentor and teach the next generation of engineers at Bar-Ilan University and within SCD.
